Brit Hume, talking head for Fox News, recently was quoted commenting on Tiger Woods’ personal issues as saying,

"The extent to which he can recover seems to me depends on his faith," Hume said. "He is said to be a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. My message to Tiger would, ‘Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world."

So let me understand this correctly, If Tiger were to disavow Buddhism and convert to Christianity all of his problems would magically disappear?  The scary reality is that for Christians this probably is a true statement.  If Tiger were to enter the fold they would be willing to forgive his dalliances with celebrity stricken bar maids.  The problem is that Tiger doesn’t need their forgiveness.  He needs the forgiveness of his wife and family.  That can’t be achieved through conversion.  As well, the sponsors of the Tiger Woods’ empire don’t give a rat’s rear end what his faith is.  His value to them is his redemption in the court of public opinion.  Usually all that is required is a heart felt, prime time interview with the talk show host du jour and then some undetermined amount of news cylces and Wala!! Redemption achieved!
